    Harinama Sankirtana

      Harinama-sankirtana (the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord) may be most familiar from seeing the devotees out in the streets, dancing and chanting the maha-mantra Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare accompanied by mridangas (two headed drums) and karatalas (hand cymbals). Krishnas holy names are endowed with all of His potencies and this sound vibration can reawaken a person to his spiritual identity and existence. We have forgotten our real identity as spiritual beings, part and parcel of Krishna, and this forgetfulness is the root cause of all our suffering. When a person is asleep he forgets who he really is and in his dreaming he assumes one illusory identity after another, in each existence suffering unnecessarily.
      500 years ago Lord Krishna came as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (or Lord Gauranga). He appeared as a devotee of Krishna (Himself) to reawaken all the conditioned souls by the method of harinama-sankirtana. He would go with His followers into the streets and chant the names of Krishna so that peoples suffering could be ended, and they could take to the real activity, the spiritual activity, of worshiping and serving the Supreme Lord.
      Bhaktivinoda Thakura writes in one song:
      Jiv jago jiv jago gauracandra boleKota nidra jao maya pisacira kole
      Lord Gauranga calls: "Wake up sleeping souls, wake up sleeping souls! You have slept so long in the lap of the witch Maya" (the superintendent of the material world who facilitates one forgetting his spiritual nature).
      He continues, "You came into this world saying O my Lord, I will certainly worship you but having forgotten this promise, you have remained in great ignorance."

      "I have descended just to save you. Other then Myself, who else is your friend?"
      "I have brought the medicine for destroying the illusion of Maya. Now pray for this hari-nama maha-mantra and take it."
      Although Lord Caitanya performed harinama-sankirtana throughout India, He desired harinama to be performed in every town and village around the world for the benefit of everyone, without discrimination.
      His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanata Swami Prabhupada brought harinama to the rest of the world, fulfilling the desire of Lord Caitanya. Srila Prabhupada created ISKCON (The International Society for Krishna Consciousness) to take harinama-sankirtan to every town and village. The members of ISKCON are working to achieve that goal and we need your help.

      A Leader prays to fit into God's Plans.....

        This poem has been my base since class 5.....
        The hymn n prayer book is in shambles.... but I am inspired to type it down after decades for a dear friend.. and my own self :)

        A Leader prays to fit into God's Plans

        Today as I watched a potter
        He moulded a beautiful vase
        As he picked up the clay to shape it,
        Each particle fell into place.

        It seemed as he crushed it and presssed it
        Every flaw had dissolved in his hand;
        And soon he had fashioned a vessel;
        Exactly as first he had planned.

        Then I saw him open an oven
        And the vessel was placed in the heat.
        The surface began to harden;
        To glisten and shine as a sheet.
        So often we're placed in the furnace,
        We're tried and crushed to pure gold.
        As the potter turns out his vessel,
        So our lives are shaped, I'm told.

        Now I thought as I saw him in action,
        How God moulds our lives everyday,
        How he irons out all of our defects
        And works every blemish away.
        Then I prayed, "Oh! may I be pliant,
        That I may be easily bent,
        Of the mission for which I am sent".

        God is Awesome.......
        God cannot be everywhere so he made mothers.... 2nd Sunday of May is Mother's day too...
        Hope you all enjoyed..... with your Godess :)

        Hare Krishna Hare Rama.....

        Apara ekadashi - story

          Once Yudhishthira Maharaja said, 'Oh Lord Krishna, Oh Vasudeva, please accept my humble obeisance's. Please describe to me the Ekadashi that occurs during krishna paksha of the month of Jyeshtha (May-June). Please narrate to me everything like its name, importance etc. about this Ekadashi.

          Lord Sri Krishna said, "Oh great king ! the name of this meritorious Ekadashi is Apara Ekadashi. Whoever fasts on this holy day becomes famous all over the universe. Even such sins as killing a brahman, a cow, or an embryo, blasphemy, or having sex with another man’s wife are completely eradicated by observing Apara Ekadashi. People who bear false witness, a person who falsely or sarcastically glorifies another, one who cheats while weighing something on a scale, one who invents his own scripture, one who cheats others, one who is a false astrologer, a cheating accountant, or a false Ayurvedic doctor. All these are surely as bad as persons who bears false witness, and they are all destined for hellish punishments. But simply by observing Apara Ekadashi, all such sinners become completely free of their sinful reactions. Warriors who fall from their kshatriya-dharma and flee the battlefield go to a ferocious hell. Even such a fallen kshatriya, if he observes fasting on the Apara Ekadashi, is freed of that great sinful reaction and goes to heaven. That disciple is the greatest sinner who, after receiving a proper spiritual education from his spiritual master, turns around and blasphemes him. Such a so-called disciple suffers unlimitedly. But even he simply observes Apara Ekadashi, can attain to the spiritual world.

          The merit attained by one who performs all of the following acts of piety is equal to the merit achieved by one who observes Apara Ekadashi: bathing three times daily in Pushkara-kshetra during Kartika,bathing at the time of a solar eclipse at Kurukshetra, bathing at Prayag in the month of Magh when the sun is in the zodiac of Capricorn; rendering service to Lord Shiva during Shivratri, offering oblations to one’s forefathers , bathing in the sacred Gomti River when Jupiter transits Leo (Singha); and and giving cows, elephants, and gold in charity. All the merit one gets from performing these pious acts is gained by a person who observes the Apara Ekadashi fast. Also, the merit attained by one who donates a pregnant cow, along with gold and fertile land, is attained by one who fasts on this day. This Ekadashi is an axe that cuts down the fully matured forest full of trees of sinful deeds, it is a forest fire that burns sins as if they were kindling firewood, it is the sun blazing before one’s dark misdeeds. Therefore one who faithfully observes the Apara Ekadashi and worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Shri Trivikrama. One who does so is freed of all his sins and promoted to the abode of Lord Vishnu.

          "Oh King ! for the benefit of all humanity I have thus described to you this the importance of the Apara Ekadashi. Anyone who hears or reads this description is freed from all kinds of sins.

          Om Jai Jagdish Hare

            When GOD leads you to the edge of the cliff,
            Trust Him fully.

            Only one of the two things will happen;

            Either He will catch you when you fall or
            He will teach you how to fly.

            Aw! look @ these innocent nestlings... we all have been taken care off by God - we all were in this nascent stage..... and He takes care of us every moment.... just love all creations around you... You'd find God exists in each of them..... so lovely .. so blissful.... so awesome!
